With the kid home from school on Friday and me working 10 hours on Saturday I was really looking forward to sewing on Sunday! My plan: Quilt up Mod Pop!
Therefore on Friday, while out shopping for good grade rewards and going to lunch with the kid, I made sure I went and picked up batting and matching thread to quilt up my Mod Pop on Sunday!
I have never quilted with Sulky, but their Avocado thread was a perfect match to the Kona Peridot!!!
As for the kid's good grade reward... a Vera Bradly hipster bag.
Technically, I think it is called a mailbag... but the kid refers to it as her "hipster". :)
Well, then we ended up at the Downtown Library, one of my favorite places, and I got caught up in the world of Demons and Shadow Hunters.
Interestingly, I had a parent express concern about their 13 year old reading this series and how they have tried to sensor her reading (although they themselves have not read the book.)
My reaction: I pointed it out to my kid and told her to read it. :)
Actually, I pointed the book out to her and told her I thought it sounded like something she would enjoy reading. I decided to read it with her... so the race was on to see who would finish reading the book first. I completed it early Sunday morning and she finished it Sunday night. I love reading books with her because all the way to school this morning we chatted about the ending!
Now we need book 2!
Ok, back to quilting.
Finally, Sunday arrived and I was eager to get started on my Mod Pop!
That's when I realized.....
I had no backing fabric!!!!
GRRRRRRRRRR
So I worked on my Hexy bee mate's hexys instead... that is until I sewed a bunch on wrong.
At that point, I gave up on Sewing Sunday and cleaned house instead. :(

It sounds like a busy day - and sorry about the quilting stuff. I know what it is like to keep making blunders and sometimes I agree, housecleaning is just the thing to get all that energy out and feel some accomplishment. Hope you get back to the quilting soon.
ReplyDeleteAs for the book - it all depends on the kid - as I'm sure you know. Early in high school our youngest daughter was required to read a book that terrified her - and after talking with the teacher I finally convinced her to let my daughter do a different project - she reluctantly agreed and gave her a bad grade because of it. It wasn't like my daughter was trying to get out of work - she did a fine job on the other book project - so it really does depend on the kid - some can handle certain things and others can't and parents need to be aware of their child and her capabilities in this area. I think you did a fine job of that.
Love your Mod Pop and Peridot is one of my favourite Kona colours :)
